Hell Roaring Fire (July 4, 2014)

Dropping The Hammer

On July 4th, 2014, the Hell Roaring Fire ignited north of Sun Valley, Idaho, between Pettit and Redfish lakes. I chased the flames and smoke columns for hours, but ultimately found the human response (in this case a DC-10 "VLAT" dropping retardant to create a fire line) to be the most intriguing. The famous Sawtooth Mountain range can be seen in the background.
